Fine Arts courses are offered on a dual-track system. Students can choose the regular path or an Intensive path. Regular Arts courses are open to any student at any grade level, regardless of experience or skill level. Intensive courses build upon each other from grades 9 through 12 and are offered exclusively to Intensive Program students.
Fine Arts Intensive Program
The Fine Arts Intensive Program is designed for students who wish to pursue a specialization in 2 or more areas of the Fine Arts (Visual Art, Dance, Drama, Music). Students will study in depth in their chosen areas and will have significant extra-curricular and community involvement in the Arts. Students who complete the program requirements will receive a specialized diploma in Fine Arts in addition to their official Dogwood Diploma.
Junior Years (grades 9 & 10)
Students in their junior years of the Fine Arts Intensive Program must complete a minimum of three Fine
Arts courses (12 credits), two of the courses being at the Intensive level.
Senior Years (grade 11 & 12)
In the senior years, students must complete a minimum of four Fine Arts courses (16 credits). Courses must be chosen from at least two areas of specialization and three of these courses must be at the Intensive level.
NOTE: Students in Music courses can count those courses as Intensive if they take 2 or more music courses concurrently (ie: jazz band plus concert band would count as 2 intensive courses, concert band alone would not count as an intensive course)
