It’s Local & District Scholarship Time!! (posted March 4)

Every year a group of donors provide funds to create scholarships for local and district students from Langley schools.  By completing the attached scholarship application, you are applying for one or more of those scholarships.

The application is relatively simple but our due dates have to be strict.  The application is due Friday April 4, 2014 by 4:00 pm.  Due to our short turn around time, applications can’t be accepted late.

Monsanto Canada estimates it will provide approximately 65 scholarships to deserving high school students across the country entering their first year of post-secondary education in agriculture at a Canadian college or university.  Each scholarship is valued at $1,500 and will be awarded to students who meet the criteria set out in the application form.  Complete applications, including the application essay, must be post-marked no later than May 24, 2014.  For more information see the scholarship box in the counselling centre or visit www.monsanto.ca

 

Langley Teachers’ Association Scholarships

If you have a demonstrated history of sustained involvement within the school and/or wider community in a manner that speaks to your understanding of, and willingness to be engaged in social justice, community, equity, leadership, minority issues and work in these areas this is the scholarship for you!

Other criteria:

1. Registered as a student in the Langley School District

2. Accepted at a publicly accredited ministry approved post secondary institution

3. Submit a letter to the Langley Teachers’ Association outlining your involvement

4. Can submit two letters of reference (one must be from a teacher at the school) in support of your application

Applications and letters of reference need to be submitted to the LTA office no later than April 4th at 4:00 pm.  For more information, please see the scholarship board and box in the counselling centre.

 

TRIUMPH SCHOLARSHIP

Since 2004, the Fellowship program is for students who will enter the

first year of a full-time science undergraduate degree program. The

Fellowship includes an award of $3,000 and a six-week summer research

position at TRIUMF, Canada’s National Laboratory for Particle and

Nuclear Physics.  Three or more fellowships are awarded each year to

students graduating from the BC secondary school system.

Students must be nominated  by their secondary school, to a maximum of

two students per school (if you can not limit it to 2, please contact us)

Please bring this opportunity to the attention of accomplished science

students in your school. Although very important, academic performance

is only part of the review criteria; the award is intended for individuals with a passion for

science, particularly physics. We advise that you encourage the

students to aim for strong written statements and reference letters.

Peter Pasula Study Habits Scholarship - $500- 1 Award (Deadline: April 1, 2014)
Student Eligibility:
1) Must be attending an accredited post-secondary institution by the fall of 2014.
2) Must be enrolled by the fall of 2014 in any level of any program that is two years in length or longer.
3) Must answer the essay question found on the application form.

Your Favorite Car Scholarship- $500- 1 Award (Deadline: April 30, 2014)

Student Eligibility:
1) Must be attending an accredited post-secondary institution by the fall of 2014 at the latest.
2) Must be enrolled or planning to enroll in a program that is at least two years in length.

MCO Scholarship- $500- 1 Award (Deadline: May 15, 2014)Student Eligibility:
1) Must be attending college or university no later than December of 2014.
2) Must be attending college or university on a full-time basis by December of 2014.
3) Must submit an answer to the essay question no later than 11:59 PM EST on May 15, 2014.
4) Must be currently in your last year of high school or a freshman, sophomore, or junior in college/university.

Maple Leaf Dentistry Scholarship- $500- 1 Award (Deadline: May 30, 2014)Student Eligibility:
1) Must be attending school at the undergraduate level in the fall of 2014 and can be enrolled in any year.
2) Must have contributed at least 100 hours of volunteer work over the last 2 calendar years.
3) Must possess a GPA of 3.0 or higher in his/her last academic year.

LM Scholarship Program- $500- 1 Award (Deadline: May 31, 2014)Student Eligibility:
1) Must be currently enrolled or expect to be enrolled in a degree program by September.
2) Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher and submit an answer to the essay question.

Odenza Vacations College Scholarship- $500- 1 Award (Deadline: June 1, 2014)Student Eligibility:
1) Must be between the ages of 17 and 24 on September 1st, 2014
2) Must submit an answer to the essay question, which can be found on the application page.
3) Must have a GPA of 2.5 or greater.

Got a Spine Scholarship- $500- 1 Award (Deadline: June 2, 2014)Student Eligibility:
1) Must be attending college or university no later than October of 2014.
2) Must be attending college or university on a full-time basis by October of 2014.
3) Must have achieved a GPA of 2.5 or greater during the last academic year.

Global Lift Equipment Scholarship- $500- 1 Award (Deadline: June 15, 2014)Student Eligibility:
1) Must be currently attending or planning on attending a post-secondary institution no later than the Fall of 2014.

3) Must have a GPA of 2.5 or greater.

Compass Mortgage Group Scholarship- $500- 1 Award (Deadline: December 30, 2014)Student Eligibility:
1) Must be between the ages of 17 and 24 on December 30th, 2014.
2) Must submit an answer to the essay question prior to the December 30th, 2014 deadline.
3) Must have a GPA of 2.75 or greater.

$500 Acting Out Grad – Theatre Arts Scholarship
 Deadline – March 31, 2014
Show off your theatrics! Grade 12 students applying for this scholarship should describe how they express themselves through music, acting or working behind-the-scenes.

$500 Sweat Your Way to Grad – Athletics Scholarship 
Deadline – April 30, 2014
For the student athlete who demonstrates school spirit throughout the year. Include special awards (MVP, team captain, league championship, class president etc.)

$500 Making Grad Great – Graduation Scholarship
Deadline – May 31, 2014
This scholarship goes to the student who best displays how they went the extra mile to make grad special at their school.
Submit links to videos, web pages or Facebook pages that highlight your contributions and show off all your great accomplishments.

 

 University of Victoria Business Scholarship

Prospera Credit Union Scholarship

Prospera Credit Union sponsors a number of scholarships for students who are furthering their post secondary studies.  These aren’t based solely on academic grades so if you have been involved in leadership, athletics or clubs while in high school, it’s worth taking a look at the list of scholarships available.  For details, please see the scholarship board and the scholarship box in the counselling centre.

 

BCGEU Scholarship

The BCGEU continues to offer scholarships to students who are related to BCGEU members and are entering a recognized post secondary institution in 2014.  There will be scholarships open to those going both part time and full time.  For more information and application form, see the scholarship board and the scholarship box in the counselling centre.

BigSun Scholarship 

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in.

The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community..

The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award is open to graduating secondary level students and those currently  studying towards a first university degree or diploma in a Canadian post-secondary institution.

      Award recipients must meet the following criteria:

a)  Involvement in voluntary humanitarian work.

b)  Canadian citizens or landed immigrants.

c)  Undergraduates studying towards their first university degree or diploma at     a Canadian post-secondary institution in Canada

d)  Maintain a satisfactory academic standing and continued involvement in voluntary humanitarian and community work.

Students are eligible to receive the Terry Fox Humanitarian Award until they have received their first university degree (for a maximum of four years), provided they have maintained a standard of humanitarian work and personal conduct which, in the opinion of the Board of Directors, justifies the award.

Recipients are selected for their dedication to the humanitarian ideals of Terry Fox, their volunteer experience, their courage in overcoming obstacles, their participation in sport, fitness and community service and their academic standing.  The Terry Fox Humanitarian Award is NOT a ‘disability award, nor is it granted solely on financial need.  Youth Leadership Contest:  Think that someone should do something about bullying? That someone is you! The Prevent Bullying WITS Youth Leadership Contest offers 13 prizes of $500 to support  youth-led bullying prevention projects. Youth, 18 years and under, can submit their ideas on Facebook or at the WITS website.

 

The RBC Students Leading Change Scholarship for Undergraduates is offered for students who show a passion for academic excellence inside the classroom, as well as a passion to lead and inspire positive changeoutside the classroom.  Applications are now available.

The Horatio Alger Jim Pattison British Columbia Scholarship Program will award $5,000 scholarships to

     20  students. The application process will begin October 1, 2013 and is open to students in their last year of high school who will attend a post-secondary institution in the fall of 2014.     Deadline:  December 1, 2013

The Student Life Network, in collaboration with CIBC, is currently offering a $20,000 award to help a current Canadian student pay for school.  The award is not merit based, is open to all students aged 16+, and it is free to apply. In addition to the $20,000 for school it contains a whole host of other awards that    make a student’s life easier. The Ken Dryden Scholarship is a $3000 scholarship available to “select young people” who are currently or  formerly in the care of the Canadian Child Welfare System.  Deadline:  the first Friday in March (2014)

The RE/MAX Quest of Excellence Bursary program is once again offering sixteen (16) $1,000 bursaries to graduating grade 12 students.  It recognizes the success and ongoing pursuits of Western Canadian students in regards to leadership and community contribution initiatives.   Students can enter online at http://www.remax-western.ca/quest-excellence

The Quest for Excellence program is open for submissions from now until midnight March 10, 2014.  Only online entries will be  accepted.

Ministry of Education’s Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship

The Pathway to Teacher Education Scholarship (PTES) is a $5,000 annual scholarship that recognizes exceptional Grade 12 students planning to enter the field of teaching. The PTES will be awarded to 20 graduating students intending to enter a BC faculty of education program. Scholarship winners will be awarded a $5,000 voucher to redeem upon entrance to one of BC’s faculty of education programs. Applications for this scholarship will be accepted this year up to March 31. UFCW & OFG Joint Diversity ScholarshipThe Overwaitea Food Group and UFCW Local 1518 are offering ten $1000 scholarships to students who have played a significant role in diversity initiatives in their school and/or community. The scholarships are open to students who have demonstrated involvement in diversity initiatives; are residents of BC; and are pursuing a part-time or full-time post-secondary program in BC in Fall 2014.
