Program Information

Our program focuses on three main areas: techinial skills, physical skills and cognitive skills.  The following is a quick breakdown of our curriculum.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

Skating Skills

Basic- forward, backward, starting, stopping, cross-overs, forward to backwards turn, and backward to forward turn.

Advanced Skills - shuffle, backward lateral, stop and glide, close the gap turn, and turn-back.

Stickhandling

Basic Skills - dribble, 36- control, back-board play, pull-in, push-out, pull-back forehand, pull-back backhand, under the stick, pull and kick in front, pull and kick behind, and front fake.

Advanced Skills - pull and push, pull and pivot, over the stick, behind and kick, stop and pull-back, stop – under and roll (Roenick style), under and roll (Kariya style), and under, lock and shoot (Yzerman style).

Passing

Basic Skills -forehand, backhand, forehand saucer, cushion receiving, catch and receive, and receive with skate in front.

Advance Skills - backhand saucer, pull and pass, push and pass, 360, receive with skate behind, receive with skate outside, rimming the puck, receive a rim, receive between skates, receive behind – deflect and kick, one hand receive, and one hand pass.

Shooting

Basic Skills - wrist shot, backhand shot, shoot across body, facing the target, shoot to the side, back to the target.

Advanced Skills - push and shoot, pull and shoot, front fake and shoot, slap shot, fake shot with pivot, lateral movement and shoot, one timer, and tip ins.

Checking

Basic Skills - stick check, angling, and balance.

Advanced Skills - boxing out, lateral movements, closing the gap.

Goaltending

Basic Skills - basic stance, butterfly, shuffle steps, t-pushes, stick saves, glove saves, passing, recovery rotation, pad saves, and crease movements.

Advanced Skills - telescoping and flowback, angles and landmarking, stacking the pads, roll over saves, aggressive butterfly, paddle down, recovery and lateral movement, poke check, stick handling, and over drive.

PHYSICAL

- Balance and Agility Drills, flexibility, conditioning, motor skills refinement, co-ordination and athleticism

- We employ a variety of off ice training activities.  In general, we group students based on ability and work through sessions for the majority of the off ice session.  We also like to finish with a cool down minor game before doing a final stretch and cool down.  In order to develop athleticism we also do mini-units on other sports (basketball, soccer, football, dodgeball, tennis – to name a few).
