On Ice Sessions

During the on ice sessions for the upcoming school year we will be following a hockey school model where students are grouped into appropriate skill levels.  In order to maximize skill acquisition, the student athletes will go though a series of high repetition stations which will focus on appropriate technical, physical and cognitive areas.  For example, we breakdown skills so that players understand the proper technique that is required, how their body must move in an effective manner, and how the technique could be applied in a game situation.

Off Ice Sessions

The off ice sessions are designed to support the technical skills from the on ice sessions during the hockey season.  The focus of our off ice sessions change throughout the year in order to maximize development.  For example, from September to February the focus is on maintaining and increasing strength, agility, and cardio.  March to June the focus shifts to a transition phase and other sports are explored in order to develop a stronger overall athletic base.  We are not just training hockey players, we are training athletes.  Elite athletes must have a solid athletic base if they are to excel at their sport.

Seminars

Once each month student athletes

have a seminar.  Topics include:

nutrition, fitness, training, mental

skills, leadership, scholarships, and

other hockey related topics.

Guest speakers will be brought in

periodically throughout the school

year.

Overall, we believe in developing

complete student athletes who

acquire proficient technical skills,

physical capabilities, and mental

skills required to compete in

today’s game.

We also assist families and players in understanding hockey options that are available to them—such as, identifying High Performance options (BC Hockey Programs), the difference between the various Junior Leagues, and understanding what Canadian and American Colleges and Universities offer.  Our staff has experience and connections to various elite levels and we use our expertise to give our players and families the best advice possible.

A Tour Of The Program

Introduction

Hockey Canada Skills Academies are nationwide.  We chose to become a Hockey Canada Skills Academy because Hockey Canada is the leading authority on player development in the world. ALL of our coaching staff have coaching experience at the  Junior Hockey levels and with BC Hockey High Performance Programs (see the Coaching Staff link for more information)

We believe strongly in developing complete student athletes and focus on three main developmental areas: technical, physical, and cognitive.  We follow a highly organized developmental plan that Hockey Canada has created and divide our time between on ice sessions, off ice sessions, seminars and hockey related field trips.  Our coaching staff also can assist players and families who are interested in advancing their hockey careers and learning about hockey related opportunities and occupations.
